Atlas Carport by Canopia FAQ — Everything You Need to Know

Will My Vehicle Actually Fit?

Standard cars, trucks, and SUVs:

At roughly 7 ft of clearance and a 10x16 footprint, the Atlas covers a standard car, small-to-midsize truck, or SUV. Measure a taller SUV, a truck with a cap, or anything with a roof rack against the ~7 ft clearance figure before ordering.

FAQ

What do the wind and snow ratings actually mean?

The Atlas is rated to sustained winds up to 56 mph and a snow load of 20 lb/ft², per retailer-published spec sheets (Home Depot and Lowe's list general wind/snow resistance without a specific number, but kitsuperstore and shedsdirect both independently cite these figures). Always anchor per the included instructions and clear heavy snow buildup promptly in snow-heavy regions.

Do I need a permit to install this?

Most municipalities require a permit for a permanent carport structure, and requirements vary widely by town — setback from property lines, wind/snow load documentation, and sometimes a foundation inspection. Check with your local building department before you install; we're happy to provide the manufacturer's engineering/spec sheet if your permit office asks for one.

What can I anchor this to, and what surface prep do I need?

All Canopia carports bolt down through footings or a poured concrete pad — concrete is the manufacturer-recommended surface. A compacted paver base or an existing patio slab can work if it's level and thick enough to hold anchor bolts securely, but loose gravel, grass, or dirt alone is not a substitute; frost-heave in cold climates can also shift an under-prepped foundation over time. If you're not sure your existing surface will hold anchors properly, call or text us and we can help you think through pad size and prep before you order.

Why is the Atlas priced differently at different retailers?

Like most Canopia lines, pricing varies meaningfully between big-box retailers and specialty dealers for the identical model (HG9136/#701945) — we price against the specialty-dealer cluster rather than the lowest big-box number, since that's been the more reliable in-stock, accurately-described option in our experience.

What's covered under the warranty, and how do I file a claim?

A 10-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects in the frame and panels. Keep your proof of purchase — if you ever need to file a claim, call or text us at 732-806-7959 and we'll walk you through the process directly rather than routing you through a manufacturer call center.
